The safety of all employees is always the most important thing to every business owner and it will be quickly and clearly stated by every leader if asked. The core purpose of most every business model, however, is to make a profit. If you attempt to eliminate risks from the operations the business will likely fail. Safety programs should work WITH operational systems to reduce workplace injury/incidents and help drive profits. We approach every job with this in mind
Safety & Risk Management activities do not directly generate revenue and therefore are frequently under-funded. Full-time employees are few and far between and burnout of the existing safety team or individuals wearing multiple hats is common. Contracting with Tower Hill Risk Management for specific projects gets the work done without having to justify full-time employment.

If you are looking for safety help you are likely not familiar with the confusing language spoken by safety professionals. This is taken into consideration when discussing a challenge as well written reports. Nobody wants to read a 30 page report filled with fluff and we don't want to waste resources writing them. Standard business language in an executive summary format is where we start. If you want fluff we will provide it upon request. Reporting should be transparent and actionable. The employees deserve to have concerns and issues resolved without dancing around difficult subjects. Employers simply want to know what needs to be done and how to realistically do it.
A broad look at your existing safety program to reward excellence and identify opportunities for improvement. If its already in writing, are the correct behaviors actually demonstrated in the field?
How do you report claims? Are your insurance premiums at risk because of an increase in claims? Do employees receive medical attention as quickly or is there a lag? Analyzing loss data to identify areas where resources are needed? Is reporting still performed on paper? We can help you.
What qualifications are you using to hire them? How are you training them? How do you maintain visibility of their license validity? Are you interested in "seeing more" of what's actually happening with your fleet while on the road? Have you been introduced to telematics? If any of these are of interest we can help you.
Facility inspections, safety maintenance development, fire prevention/protection and situational hazard assessments are critical to preventing disaster to your property. The unnecessary loss-of-use of an important building will have an immediate impact to the bottom line. Inspections, work orders and following up on repairs are important but do you have the right people doing them? Do they know a risk when they see it? We can help perform the inspections or set you up to properly do them yourself.
All high-risk and new operational process should have a risk assessment performed before starting work. We can help review the process, identify risks and offer affordable solutions that reduce risk with less impact to the business. Or we can work with you to set up a process internally.
Having trouble hiring employees that are physically fit to do the work? Is your existing workforce aging in place and the cost of injuries rising along with them? There is only so much of the physical part of the job that can be removed. Implementing a physical exam into the the pre-hire, as well as post-injury phases of employment could help reduce your risk exposure significantly.
Employees working alone or without supervision are a special challenge for any safety program. If nobody is watching how do you know the right safety steps are being taken? We can work with you and your field teams to build the necessary incentives and behaviors to do the right thing.
Incident investigations are frequently overlooked as an extremely valuable tool in preventing reoccurrence. Investigation findings that include language such as "should be more aware of surroundings" and "employee is always clumsy" are signs that the reporting process is immature and the majority of opportunity is being lost. Put those missed opportunities to work. A true root cause analysis can identify a multitude of steps to be taken and can be performed without tying up too many resources
Contractors working on behalf of your company could be opening up a large amount of unnecessary liability. Are they being hired properly? Is the contract language weighted primarily to protect you or is it protecting the contractor? Does their safety program include the hazards they are performing for you? Are you aware of incidents that they are causing or losses they are experiencing? Contractor safety is a big deal and simply saying that you don't have any exposure is a false narrative.
Effective reporting is not just throwing numbers at people. Telling the story is the best method to gain understanding, develop strategies and execute using the right information at the right time. Reporting can be an extremely stressful part of the job but it doesn't have to be. We can help you.

Before I received my BS in Environmental Health and Technology from Springfield College I was already working full time in the EHS field. It clicked early for me and I haven't stopped. Industrial Hygiene work performed on Superfund sites, chasing sick building syndrome and collecting water samples from the bottom of Boston utility holes were just a few of my first work experiences. Years later a tragic workplace fatality became a lifetime career course correction for me into the world of safety and risk management. My path for the next 25+ years has seen me through the many levels of leadership at Cox Communications ending as the companies lead for all Safety & Risk responsibilities encompassing 16,000 employees, 27 safety team professionals, over 5,000+ fleet vehicles and billions of dollars in revenue risk. During a 10 year period at Cox I was also the Facilities and Real Estate Operations Lead for the Northeast region. Combining Safety oversight with property protection responsibilities provided me with a wealth of asset protection experience. In January 2023 I took advantage of an early retirement offer. I am incredibly fortunate to be able to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of life in Maine. It did not take long to realize, however, that my heart and soul is happiest when helping others. Providing a safe place for employees to work and creating safe behaviors in their actions is difficult and its exactly what I can help you with.
